How to Sand and Paint Coffee Table
Sanding and painting a coffee table is an easy way to update and add some freshness to your living room. It's also an inexpensive project that can be completed in a few hours.
To get started, you'll need the following materials:
- Sandpaper (120-grit and 220-grit)
- Paint
- Paintbrush or roller
- Painter's tape (optional)
- Tack cloth
- Polyurethane (optional)
Once you have your materials, you can begin sanding the coffee table. Start with the 120-grit sandpaper and sand in the direction of the wood grain. Be sure to sand evenly and remove all of the old finish.
Once you've sanded the table with the 120-grit sandpaper, you can switch to the 220-grit sandpaper. Sand the table again in the direction of the wood grain, but this time, use lighter pressure. This will help to smooth out the surface of the table and prepare it for painting.
Once you've sanded the table, it's time to paint it. You can choose any type of paint you like, but be sure to use a paint that is specifically designed for wood. Apply the paint in thin, even coats, and allow each coat to dry completely before applying the next.
Once you've painted the table, you can seal it with a coat of polyurethane. This will help to protect the paint and give the table a glossy finish.
Here are some additional tips for sanding and painting a coffee table:
- If you're painting the table a dark color, you may need to apply a primer first.
- Use a paintbrush or roller to apply the paint, and be sure to use even strokes.
- Allow each coat of paint to dry completely before applying the next.
- Once you've painted the table, you can seal it with a coat of polyurethane.
