How to Build a Live Edge River Table

A live edge river table is a beautiful and unique piece of furniture that can add a touch of nature to any home. It's made from a single slab of wood with the natural edge left intact, and a "river" of epoxy resin poured down the center. The result is a stunning table that's both functional and eye-catching.

Building a live edge river table is not as difficult as you might think, but it does require some patience and attention to detail. Here's a step-by-step guide to help you get started.

1. Choose Your Wood

The first step is to choose the right piece of wood for your table. You'll want to select a slab that has a live edge and is at least 2 inches thick. The wood should also be dry and free of cracks or splits.

2. Cut the Slab

Once you have your wood, you'll need to cut it to the desired length and width. Use a table saw or circular saw to make the cuts.

3. Plane the Surface

Once the slab is cut, you'll need to plane the surface to make it smooth. Use a planer or jointer to remove any unevenness.

4. Sand the Surface

After the surface is planed, you'll need to sand it to remove any remaining imperfections. Start with a coarse grit sandpaper and work your way up to a fine grit sandpaper.

5. Seal the Wood

Once the surface is sanded, you'll need to seal it to protect it from moisture and damage. Use a clear finish, such as polyurethane or epoxy resin.

6. Create the River

Now it's time to create the river. To do this, you'll need to pour epoxy resin down the center of the slab. Use a dam or form to keep the resin in place while it cures.

7. Sand and Finish the River

Once the resin is cured, you'll need to sand it to remove any imperfections. Start with a coarse grit sandpaper and work your way up to a fine grit sandpaper. Once the resin is sanded, you can apply a clear finish to protect it.

8. Attach the Legs

The final step is to attach the legs to the table. You can use any type of legs you like, but make sure they're strong enough to support the weight of the table.

Congratulations! You've now built your own live edge river table.
