How to Make Folding Table Legs Out of Wood
A folding table is a versatile piece of furniture that can be used for a variety of purposes, from dining to crafting to playing games. If you're looking for a way to save space and add some functionality to your home, making your own folding table legs out of wood is a great option.
Materials and Tools:
- 4 pieces of 2x4 lumber, each 36 inches long
- 4 pieces of 1x4 lumber, each 18 inches long
- 1 piece of plywood, 36 inches square
- Wood screws
- Washers
- Nuts
- Drill
- Saw
- Sander
- Wood glue
- Paint or stain (optional)
Steps:
1. Cut the Legs and Supports:Using a saw, cut the 2x4 lumber into four pieces, each 36 inches long. These will be the legs of the table.
Next, cut the 1x4 lumber into four pieces, each 18 inches long. These will be the supports for the legs.
2. Assemble the Legs:To assemble the legs, you will need to use wood screws, washers, and nuts. First, drill a pilot hole through the center of each leg, about 1 inch from the top. Then, insert a washer and a nut onto a wood screw, and screw it through the pilot hole until it is snug.
Repeat this process for the other three legs.
3. Attach the Supports:To attach the supports to the legs, you will need to use wood glue and wood screws.
First, apply a generous amount of wood glue to the top of each support. Then, align the support with the inside of a leg, and press it into place.
Once the support is in place, drill a pilot hole through the center of the support, about 1 inch from the edge. Then, insert a washer and a nut onto a wood screw, and screw it through the pilot hole until it is snug.
Repeat this process for the other three supports.
4. Attach the Plywood Top:To attach the plywood top to the legs, you will need to use wood screws. First, drill pilot holes through the center of each leg, about 1 inch from the top.
Then, align the plywood top with the legs, and screw it into place using wood screws.
5. Finish the Table:
Once the table is assembled, you can finish it by sanding it, painting it, or staining it. If you choose to paint or stain the table, be sure to do so before attaching the plywood top.
6. Enjoy Your New Folding Table:
Congratulations! You have now made your own folding table legs out of wood. Enjoy your new table for years to come.
