A coffee table is a central piece of furniture in many living rooms. Not only does it serve as a practical surface for holding drinks, snacks, and remote controls, but it can also add style and personality to your space. If you're looking for a unique and functional coffee table, consider building one yourself. Materials Needed:

  • 4 pieces of 2x6 lumber (8 feet long)
  • 4 pieces of 1x6 lumber (8 feet long)
  • 1 piece of plywood (3/4 inch thick, 4 feet by 8 feet)
  • Wood screws (1 1/2 inches and 2 1/2 inches)
  • Wood glue
  • Sandpaper
  • Primer
  • Paint or stain
  • Drawer slides
  • Drawer pulls

Tools Needed:

  • Saw
  • Drill
  • Measuring tape
  • Level
  • Clamps
  • Sanding block

Steps:

1. Cut the Lumber:

Using a saw, cut the lumber according to the following measurements:

  • 4 pieces of 2x6 lumber: 4 feet long
  • 4 pieces of 1x6 lumber: 2 feet long, 2 pieces 3 feet long
  • 1 piece of plywood: 4 feet by 2 feet

2. Assemble the Frame:

Using wood screws and wood glue, assemble the frame of the coffee table. The frame should be made up of the four 2x6 pieces, with the four 1x6 pieces used as supports. The 2x6 pieces should be placed vertically, with the 1x6 pieces placed horizontally between them.

3. Attach the Plywood Top:

Place the plywood top onto the frame and secure it with wood screws. Make sure the plywood is centered and level.

4. Build the Drawers:

To build the drawers, you will need to cut the remaining pieces of 1x6 lumber. Cut the pieces according to the following measurements:

  • 4 pieces of 1x6 lumber: 15 inches long
  • 4 pieces of 1x6 lumber: 18 inches long

Assemble the drawers using wood screws and wood glue. The drawers should be made up of two pieces of 1x6 lumber for the sides, and two pieces of 1x6 lumber for the front and back.

5. Attach the Drawer Slides:

Attach the drawer slides to the inside of the frame and the bottom of the drawers. Make sure the drawer slides are properly aligned so that the drawers open and close smoothly.

6. Add the Drawer Pulls:

Once the drawer slides are attached, you can add the drawer pulls. The drawer pulls can be any style that you like.

7. Sand and Finish:

Sand the coffee table until it is smooth. Then, apply a coat of primer and paint or stain of your choice. Let the finish dry completely before using the coffee table.

With this step-by-step guide, you can easily create a beautiful and functional DIY coffee table with drawers. This piece of furniture will not only add storage space to your living room but also become a stylish focal point.
